TONY KEARNS

Traditional Irish Music Photography

The Willie Clancy Summer School (Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy) takes over the town of Miltown Malbay in County Clare for one week each July, filling the area with thousands of musicians, singers, dancers and lovers of Irish traditional music. I first visited the Summer School in 1991 and I was swept away by the atmosphere and music that I experienced during that week. I started a photographic project centred on the School in the following year and I have been there with my cameras every year (except for 2005) since then.

The photographs are organised in galleries for each year and I will be adding more to each when they become available. There is a considerable backlog of images over the years which I am unearthing regularly.

I have made great efforts to name the people in each photograph; please contact me to share names and information if they are missing.

PRINTS

Archival quality prints of each photograph are available to order at 35 euro (A4 size) and 50 euro (A3 size) per print, including VAT, post & packaging. Payment by PayPal preferred and a 10% discount applies to orders of three or more prints. This project has been entirely self financed (with the blessing and cooperation of the Willie Clancy Summer School) so print sales help to recoup the costs incurred.

BOOK

With the generous assistance of the Arts Council of Ireland I published a book of photographs taken at the Summer School entitled 'Music & Light Ceol agus Solas' which is available to order at www.musicandlight.ie
